Quotes A tense, thrilling tale--Imbroglio by Alana Woods. This is a very well-written story, with central characters that are likeable, even though I wasn't sure at many points if they were good or bad. The motivation is very credible and that is what makes Imbroglio really terrifying because it could happen -- anyone could be like Noel and accidentally hear something that they follow up on -- and then find themselves up to their necks in... Well, read the book and you'll find out. It develops into a fast-paced, page-turning, fingernail-biting rollercoaster of a tale. Plenty of twists and turns. Quotes

Quotes Alana Woods can seriously write! -- Automaton by Alana Woods. I love reading a great mystery. I love it even more if I can't figure it out by Chapter three. Well, Automaton, by Alana Woods has that and a whole lot more! Set in and around the courtrooms of Australia, Miss Woods takes the reader on a journey from a brutal murder, a defendant who can't remember a thing, (or can he?) to an end that you can't wait to get to! The story centers around Russell, charged with a murder he can't remember. His lawyer, or as they say in Australia, his barrister, is a young cocky way too sure of herself woman by the name of Elizabeth. She's not the most tactful tool in the box, and soon has the entire office looking at her in disdain. Her boss, Robert, oh what a man he is. And modest as well. You just know that the tension between him and Elizabeth is going to be electric! Quotes

Quotes Packed with Style and Mystery -- Imbroglio by Alana Woods. This book is intelligently written; I enjoyed the author's unique style, and I appreciate that she did not dumb down her prose. Alana Woods has the kind of unique voice that you will always know when you are reading that it is one of her books, even if you were to pick up a book without a cover or her name on it. That is what will make her stand out from others in the genre and what will keep her fans coming back for her books specifically. The real star of the show, however, is the characters that drive this story. I'm usually good at solving a mystery early on, but Alana keep me guessing until the end. I also felt the style allowed me to be fully absorbed in David's POV, and the brusque dialogue scenes kept this story moving at a quick pace. I was surprised how much I loved this, since it's not one of my favorite genres (though one I do enjoy from time to time). Fans of the genre should eat this up. Quotes

Quotes A rip roaring Mystery! -- Imbroglio by Alana Woods. Ms. Woods tells a tale wrapped in layer upon layer. Its not a fast read, but it is a good one. I like it when an author takes their time to really put a story together. Set in Australia, Ms. Woods brings Sydney to life and even though I have never been there I can picture it in my minds eye. Greed, Lust, murder, this is a whopping ride of a mystery, some of the things that happen to our Noel just make you hold your breath. And David? Well I won?t give out any spoilers but damn! I have never read this author before, but after finishing this book, I know I will be reading more of her. Quotes

Quotes I am excited to have discovered this author's work. Looking forward to reading more -- Tapestries and other short stories -- Short stories are supposed to leave a longing, a desire to spin off from where the story ended, and create space to ponder about what would have been and what could have been. Award-winning author Alana Woods is a master in doing so. The main story evokes the feelings all women dream of ... I was in awe ... "Yin and Yang" just took my breath away ... "A south sea pearl": In a most masterful way Woods ends ... Quotes

Quotes Fast-paced light reading -- Imbroglio by Alana Woods -- It wasn't until I reached the mid-way point of the book that I began to know what was going on. A very enjoyable read! Quotes

Quotes Concentrate! -- Imbroglio by Alana Woods -- One of my better reads, the plot twists and turns starting from a very unexpected place. Normally a tale like this would follow the normal cliche ridden crime / legal drama storyline but I found I couldn't second guess where the tale was heading. One word of caution: it is a fairly involved read and occasionally I'd find myself flicking back a few pages to work out how I'd got there. The author has been compared to Grisham and I think that is fair although the book hasn't been made into a film yet which gives the former greater credence. Quotes

Quotes The Life You Save May Be Your Own -- Imbroglio, by Alana Woods -- If the title of my review seems far less original than that of the novel it explores, that's because there are some cliches that well-earn their familiarity. For example, if overheard conversations, mistaken and assumed identity, and misdirected letters (nowadays more prevalent as lost or stolen e-mail correspondence and hacked computer files) are not fresh enough for your taste in fiction, then the entire suspense/thriller genre probably isn't either. Alana Woods deploys them all--there's even a diary--but recombination is everything. Quotes Tapestries and other short stories -- How's about a little romance tale with a happy ending? Or perhaps another with a punch-in-the-gut jolt at the finale? They're right here. Would you prefer a really short one that'll make you laugh `til your eyes water and your sides hurt - so funny that you'll have to hang onto the chair arms to keep from falling over? I guarantee that you'll be yelling to whomever's in the next room, "Hey, you've just got to read this!" I did - after I got to where I could stop laughing. You'll have to buy the book and explore the very last yarn to find out what's there. I won't tell you more, except that you'll get pulled right into it, in a hurry. Alana Woods has given us a gem - a collection of wonderfully written short stories that will leave you asking for more. She's an extraordinarily imaginative author with a virtuoso's command of the language. Don't miss this one! Quotes
